This is an estimate, not a customs assessment. It excludes broker fees, port and terminal charges, inland transport and product certification. Rates change, and the final amount depends on the classification and value accepted by customs.
How it is calculated in South Africa
South Africa charges duty on the FOB value, not CIF.
Import VAT uses an Added Tax Value: the customs value plus a 10% uplift, plus the duty. This calculator applies that uplift automatically.
Electrical products may also need an NRCS Letter of Authority, which is a separate cost.
| Item | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Import duty | Customs value (fob) × duty rate |
| VAT (on value + 10% uplift + duty) | (customs value × 1.10 + import duty) × 15% |
