How it is calculated in South Africa

South Africa charges duty on the FOB value, not CIF.

Import VAT uses an Added Tax Value: the customs value plus a 10% uplift, plus the duty. This calculator applies that uplift automatically.

Electrical products may also need an NRCS Letter of Authority, which is a separate cost.
