This is an estimate, not a customs assessment. It excludes broker fees, port and terminal charges, inland transport and product certification. Rates change, and the final amount depends on the classification and value accepted by customs.

How it is calculated in Kenya

Kenya values imports on a CIF basis, so freight and insurance are part of the taxable value.

IDF and RDL are charged on the customs value only. VAT is charged on the customs value plus duty and excise.

Regulated goods also need a KEBS PVoC certificate before shipping. That cost is not included here.

ItemCalculation
Import dutyCustoms value (cif) × duty rate
Excise duty (if any)(customs value (CIF) + import duty) × 0%
Import Declaration Fee (IDF)(customs value (CIF)) × 2.5%
Railway Development Levy (RDL)(customs value (CIF)) × 2%
VAT(customs value (CIF) + import duty + excise duty) × 16%
