How it is calculated in United Arab Emirates

The UAE applies the GCC common external tariff, 5% on the CIF value for most goods.

Import VAT at 5% is charged on the customs value plus duty. Registered businesses can usually account for it in their VAT return.

Goods kept in a free zone are generally not subject to duty until they enter the local market.
