Everything We Handle for You

Kenya is one of East Africa's busiest import gateways — hardware, motorcycle and boda boda parts, solar equipment, plastics and consumer goods all move through Mombasa in growing volumes, which also means real markups if you're buying through a trading middleman. Here's how we help, whatever stage you're at:

New Product Sourcing

Have a product idea or a spec to match? We connect you with factories across China, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia to design, sample and validate it before you commit to a container.

  • Design & development support
  • Physical samples shipped to Kenya
  • Direct factory price negotiation

Cheaper Materials, Same Specs

Already importing hardware, motorcycle parts or plastics through a trading middleman? We go direct to the certified factory and cut out the markup you're currently paying.

  • Certified factories only
  • Direct FOB/FCA freight, no broker markup
  • 25–35% average savings

Inspection for Existing Suppliers

Already have a supplier in Asia but no one checking the goods before they ship? We inspect independently, on your behalf, before the container leaves port.

  • On-site QC before shipment
  • AQL sampling standards
  • Photo & video reports within 24h
Logistics into Kenya

Delivered to the Port of Mombasa

We manage sourcing, inspection and export logistics from the factory floor in Asia through to the Port of Mombasa, including export documentation. Once your shipment arrives, we connect you directly with a licensed Kenyan clearing and transport partner who handles customs clearance, duty/VAT payment, and last-mile delivery to your business — billed and paid directly between you and them.

Popular Products We Source for Kenya

Kenya's import volumes are concentrated in a few categories where the savings from cutting out a middleman are largest:

Construction Hardware & Fittings

Steel fasteners, plumbing fittings, electrical hardware and general building supplies — high volume, price-sensitive, and where distributor markups tend to be steepest.

Motorcycle & Boda Boda Parts

Engine components, tires, chains and replacement parts for the motorcycle taxi trade, one of the fastest-moving import categories in the country.

Solar & Off-Grid Equipment

Panels, batteries, inverters and charge controllers for Kenya's growing off-grid and rural electrification market.

Plastics & Packaging

Injection-molded household goods, containers and packaging materials for local manufacturers and distributors.

Real Numbers, Not Guesswork

What It Actually Costs to Land Goods in Kenya

Landed cost is where most first-time Kenyan importers get surprised — not by the factory price, but by everything added on top of it at the border. Here's the real math on a shipment from China into Mombasa, so there are no surprises when your container lands.

ItemRate / RangeNotes
Import Duty0% – 35% of CIF valueDepends on HS code / product category
VAT16% of CIF + dutyApplied on nearly all imports
Import Declaration Fee (IDF)2.5% of CIF valueMandatory KRA declaration fee
Railway Development Levy (RDL)2% of CIF valueFunds Kenya's rail infrastructure
Sea Freight Transit Time22–35 daysFCL runs faster than LCL
Customs Clearance5–10 business daysPlus 1–2 days for mandatory radioactive screening at Mombasa (KNRA directive, since May 2026)

We factor duty, VAT, IDF and RDL into your landed cost estimate before you commit to an order — not after your container is already sitting at the port.

Transparent Pricing

A Deposit, Not a Paywall.

There's no cost to start the sourcing process itself. We ask for a fully credited deposit to dedicate our team to supplier research, factory vetting, negotiation and sample coordination — and if you move forward with a bulk order, that deposit is deducted in full from your final invoice. If you decide not to proceed, the deposit covers the work already completed.

StepWhat It CoversTerms
Sourcing Deposit (per product)Supplier research, factory vetting, negotiation, sample coordinationUpfront; 100% credited toward your bulk order if you proceed
Factory InspectionOn-site QC visit, photo/video reportPayable before the inspection
Bulk OrderFactory price + built-in margin100% upfront, before shipment

Payments are made in USD. Kenyan law requires a 20% withholding tax on professional fees paid to a foreign company — this is set by Kenya, not by us, and is factored into the figures on our official Kenya price list. Request it for exact numbers before you commit to anything.

Common Questions

What Kenyan Importers Ask Us

Do you only source from China?+
No — we source across Asia, including China, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia, depending on which factories offer the best fit, price and lead time for your product.
Can you inspect a factory I'm already using?+
Yes. We regularly run independent inspections for importers who already have a supplier in Asia but no one checking quality on-site before the goods ship. We report back to you directly, not the factory.
How does payment work?+
Every phase has a fixed, published fee agreed upfront — nothing hidden. The Sourcing Deposit and inspections are paid before the work begins, and bulk orders are paid in full before shipment. If you move forward with a bulk order, your deposit is credited toward it — you never pay twice.
Why is the total higher than what's listed for other countries?+
It isn't, once you look at what we actually receive — our underlying fee is the same everywhere. Kenya requires a 20% withholding tax on professional fees paid to a foreign company, which your bank deducts automatically before sending payment. The extra amount you remit covers that tax, not a higher price on our end — see our Kenya price list for the exact figures.
How much will duty and VAT actually add to my order?+
It depends on the HS code of your product, but as a rule of thumb budget for duty (0–35%), 16% VAT, plus the 2.5% IDF and 2% RDL — all calculated on CIF value. We give you a landed cost estimate with these built in before you commit to an order, not after.
Why not just order through Alibaba myself?+
You can — and many importers start there. Where we add value is verifying the factory is real before you pay, negotiating a better price than the listed one, inspecting the goods before they ship, and handling the paperwork so your container isn't held up at Mombasa for a document error.
How long does a shipment actually take to reach Mombasa?+
Sea freight typically runs 22–25 days for FCL and 30–35 days for LCL from major Chinese ports, plus 5–10 days for customs clearance. We build realistic timelines into your project plan from day one so there are no surprises.
